Welcome to the blog of the Detroit Historical Society. We started this blog in 2014 to showcase our efforts to digitize the many exciting artifacts in our collection that have never been featured in our museums. With over 250,000 items, we have had plenty of fascinating, unusual, and sometimes downright strange items to showcase. Our newest project has opened a whole new frontier in digital collections. With the support of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, we have started to digitize hundreds of hours of video footage related to Detroit’s history. Follow us on our adventure as we see what we uncover.
Any comments or questions can be sent to brendanr@detroithistorical.org

Hello – Do you have any pictures of a candy shop on Woodward Ave in Campus Martius? The address would be 774 Woodward Ave, it was my great grandfather Alexander Violassi’s candy shop. Thank you!
Does anyone remember Stafford’s family restaurant at Seven Mile & Edinborough in Detroit? I used to be a dishwasher there in the early seventies. Ruth & Will were a riot. Whatever happened to Gloria Vlatsis the owner?
